Our Mission:

San Diegans helping San Diegans since 2013

Neighbors Lifting Up Neighbors! The Hands to Hands Food Drive celebrates eight years of feeding and supporting San Diegans.

Food insecurity and empty bellies has been an overwhelming problem for far too many in San Diego for years, but in light of the current COVID crisis, the numbers have gone from bad to devastating.  With food scarcity more than tripling since the global pandemic hit in early 2020, the need to support and lift up our fellow San Diegans has never been more critical.

Established in 2013, the Hands to Hands Food Drive has helped to collect over 16,543 pounds of food for families and individuals unsure of where their next meal might come from.  Since its inception, our motto has always remained, “San Diegans helping San Diegans”.  Our goal has always been to partner with local food banks and corporate partners within our community to create a hyper-local support team with a singular focus on stamping out food insecurity for our neighbors.

Today, our neighbors and our community need us more than ever.

As the passion project for Candi DeMoura, the Heart to Hands Food Drive has remained one of the most important and cherished achievements of her professional and civil career.  Receiving the Volunteering Works Grant and Mentoring Program award sponsored by REALTOR magazine and the Good Neighbor Society in 2016, Candi continues to strive to do more for her beloved community of San Diego.  The Hands to Hands Food Drive directly supports two of the region’s largest food banks, Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank.  As the two largest food distributers in the city, these two organizations are able to leverage their work with dozens of local companies and volunteers, delivering food to communities throughout the city.  Additionally, we support a smaller food bank called The Triton Food Pantry, which is located at UCSD and delivers hyper-focused support within that community.  In 2020, DeMoura added the San Diego Humane Society to the list of beneficiaries and is now accepting pet food donations. The work of these organizations cannot be overstated, and they need our help more than ever.
