April 2022 San Diego Calendar of Events
San Diego spring is in full swing, flowers are in bloom, and there is plenty for you to do and see. With the announcement of restrictions ending in June, city businesses are slowly starting to welcome more patrons. Experience exciting baseball action, global cuisine, and a variety of fun local activities this April in San Diego. 1. San Diego Padres at Petco Park
The San Diego Padres step up to the plate and begin another exciting season at Petco Park, the Padres' state-of-the-art baseball stadium in downtown.
2. Hausmann Quartet
In celebration of the start of the 2022 season of Music at the Maritime, the Maritime Museum of San Diego, and The Hausmann Quartet, artists in residence at San Diego State University, invite you to enjoy the bay views, waterfront sights, and this short yet magical performance aboard the Ferryboat Berkeley. Free with general admission.
3. Coachella 2022
Mark your calendars, the best weekends of the year are back in 2022. Coachella is a festival on every music lover's bucket list and returns with performances from some of the biggest stars with genres including rock, indie, hip-hop, and dance.
4. Tootsie - The Comedy Musical

5. Exhibit Event: Marsh's Tea Garden Legacy
CHA invites you to a special Uprooted exhibit event, to further explore the rich history of Japanese gardens in Southern California around the turn of the 20th century. Coronado's large Japanese Tea Garden built by George Turner Marsh brings together diverse garden legacies including world's fairs, tourism, the early film industry, the Japanese-American immigrant experience, and the fascination for Japanese things.
6. Annual Celebrate the Craft
Join us at Celebrate the Craft on April 3, The Lodge at Torrey Pines’ premier culinary festival, showcasing Southern California’s finest chefs, food artisans, farmers, wineries, and craft breweries. Sip and savor to your heart’s content on The Lodge's outdoor Arroyo Terrace overlooking the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean. 7. Boarded! Your Pirate Adventure Awaits
Waterfront Playground Experience with Pirates. Guests will set out to San Diego Bay for unforgettable pirate theatrics. A perfect treat for out-of-town visitors and locals alike. This hilarious interactive 90-minute pirate performance puts you right in the middle of the pirate action. Participants will be sworn in as part of the ship crew, trained how to navigate, sword fight, bail water from a sinking ship, escape from the King’s Jail, swab the deck and learn other fun pirate skills.
8. La Jolla Concours D'Elegance
The La Jolla Concours d’Elegance, presented by LPL Financial and Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, celebrates its 16th year of automotive excellence in the jewel of the West Coast Friday, April 16, Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18, 2021. Earning the reputation as one of the finest internationally renowned classic automobiles showcases in the United States, the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance continues to attract discerning car enthusiasts from around the globe. The La Jolla Concours is an incredible weekend of prestigious events that take great pride in appreciating the outstanding specimens that make up the automotive industry as we know it. 9. RENT: 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour
In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway… and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. 10. Artisan Table Signature Wine Series
Join Foxen Vineyard & Winery's Co-Owners, Dick Doré and Jenny Williamson Doré along with A.R. Valentien's Executive Chef Kelli Crosson and Advanced Sommelier Paul Krikorian for a special communal meal of seasonal bounty with some of California’s most notable wines. Set on the terrace of A.R. Valentien, each Artisan Table Signature Wine Dinner begins with a reception, followed by a dinner featuring a custom menu that’s skillfully crafted to enhance the wine pairings. Throughout the evening, guests are guided on a sensory journey with insight from the special guest duo about Foxen's winemaking process and what makes it so special.
11. Catfish Season Opener
We stock our Lakes year-round with over 35,000 lbs. of Catfish and Rainbow Trout on a seasonal basis! Bluegill and Bass are also prevalent. We have a catch and release policy on Large-mouth Bass.
12. The Flower Fields
For more than sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.
13. SeaWorld's Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival
Foodies and craft beer aficionados will love SeaWorld's Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival, featuring craft beer from favorite local breweries, plus fresh international cuisine infused with local, sustainable ingredients and unique signature flavors from around the world.
14. Film Screening of The Dragon Painter
The Coronado Historical Association, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, present The Dragon Painter (1919). This much-celebrated film was inducted into the prestigious National Film Registry in 2014 and stars silent-era heartthrob Sessue Hayakawa. In this romance drama, Hayakawa plays an artist desperate to find a sought-after princess muse, played by Hayakawa's wife Tsuru Aoki. This black-and-white film features the exquisite Coronado Japanese Tea Garden as a lush backdrop for the couple’s happy moments with many scenes also filmed in Yosemite National Park.
15. America's Schooner Cup Regatta Aboard Californian
Maritime Museum of San Diego, with an international reputation for excellence in restoring, maintaining, and operating historic vessels, will race the 142-foot schooner Californian in the 33rd annual America’s Schooner Cup Regatta Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, hosted by Silver Gate Yacht Club. Californian, the official tall ship of the state of California, and a signature historic vessel among the collection found at Maritime Museum of San Diego, won her first America’s Schooner Cup in 2019.
16. Art Alive 2022
The Museum blooms again in a kaleidoscope of color this April 28-May 1, 2022. Talented floral designers will fill the galleries with fragrant arrangements inspired by the Museum collection, offering a brilliantly colored backdrop for a weekend of beloved traditions and art-inspired activities.
17. Wine & Lecture: Running the Bases with Bill Swank
Join us for a special presentation from baseball historian Bill Swank who will share gripping stories of America's favorite pastime, from the 19th century to today, and the role Southern California played in shaping baseball history.
18. San Diego Crew Classic
Regarded as the first major regatta of the year, the San Diego Crew Classic brings together thousands of athletes from more than 100 universities, clubs, and high school programs across the United States. Spanning ages 14 – 84, the Crew Classic is a competition for future Olympians as well as for those new to the sport. This event is often a highlight of their competitive rowing careers. The Crew Classic is not only an athletic event with competitors at the peak of physical fitness, but a social gathering for enthusiasts to enjoy great local food, a beer garden with San Diego’s famous local craft breweries, and shopping. The event is held at Mission Bay, just a mile from the Pacific beach.
19. Fallbrook Avocado Festival
Fallbrook Avocado Festival will be held on April 24, 2022. There will be farmers market, avocado culinary demonstrations, agricultural displays, children’s car race, guacamole contest, art of the avocado contest, holy guaca-moly, avocado ice cream, and more.
20. Stagecoach Festival
If you are a country music fan, then Stagecoach is a festival that you won't want to miss. This 3-day outdoor music festival will be filled with live performances from about 50 top country singers. The festival will also feature a dance hall, games, guy Fieri's Stagecoach Smokehouse BBQ, restaurants, and bars.
